DoctorDocs is an independent, bootstrapped platform offering 132 free document tools — PDF editing, OCR scanning, image conversion, and AI-powered document analysis. Built in India and used worldwide.
Who Runs DoctorDocs
DoctorDocs is founded and maintained by Prabhu Chaturvedi, a developer based in India. There is no large team or venture-capital backing — this is a solo-built product started to solve a real frustration: too many document tools that require sign-ups, impose daily limits, or quietly upload files to unknown servers.

DoctorDocs is compliant with India's DPDPA 2023, EU/UK GDPR, and US CCPA/CPRA. A dedicated Grievance Officer is appointed under DPDPA 2023 (see the Privacy Policy).
How Your Files Are Processed
DoctorDocs uses a hybrid architecture. Exactly where your file is processed depends on which tool you use. The table below describes both modes honestly.
Local / In-Browser Processing — File Never Leaves Your Device
These tools run entirely in your browser using WebAssembly and JavaScript. No file is uploaded to any server. Processing happens on your own CPU/GPU.

Cloud AI Processing — File Sent to Secure API, Not Stored
Advanced AI features send your image or document text to enterprise-grade AI APIs over encrypted HTTPS. These providers operate under strict Data Processing Agreements that prohibit training on your content. Your file is not permanently stored by us or by the API provider. It is held in volatile server memory, processed, and immediately discarded.

Technology Stack
DoctorDocs uses a tiered OCR approach — the best available engine is selected automatically based on your file type and account tier:
Tier 1 — Local Tesseract.js
Open-source OCR running entirely in your browser. Free, private, supports 100+ languages. Best for clean printed text.
Tier 2 — Neural-Network OCR API
Server-side OCR optimised for typed documents, tables, and mixed layouts. Used when AI mode is selected. Pro tier.
Tier 3 — Vision-Language Model (VLM)
Multimodal AI model for handwriting, prescriptions, and complex mixed-script documents. Pro tier.
The frontend is built with Next.js and TypeScript, deployed globally on Vercel edge infrastructure. PDF processing uses WebAssembly (pdf-lib, pdfjs) compiled for in-browser execution with no server round-trip.
Why DoctorDocs Was Built
The immediate trigger was a practical problem in India: patients needed to digitise doctor prescriptions and lab reports to share with family members or insurance companies, but existing OCR tools were either expensive, required sign-up, or uploaded sensitive medical documents to unknown servers.
The broader goal became building a complete document toolkit for India — where a large share of documents are handwritten, mixed Hindi-English, or low-resolution scans of government forms (Aadhaar, PAN, ration cards). Most international tools handle these poorly.
DoctorDocs is not HIPAA-compliant and is not intended for use by US healthcare providers or covered entities. It is a general-purpose document utility for personal and small-business use.
What DoctorDocs Can and Cannot Do
Strengths

Known Limitations
- Heavily degraded or very faint scans reduce OCR accuracy significantly
- Handwriting accuracy drops for cursive or unclear handwriting
- Medical OCR may misread drug names, dosages, or lab reference ranges — always verify
- AI features require an active internet connection and consume the free-tier quota
- Not suitable for legally certified document workflows (notarisation, court filings)
